Writer's Workshop
This week we started our second unit. We are still writing true stories, but we are working hard to add more words to our stories. Here is a friend who wrote many words on his last page of his book.

Spooky House
Here is the class singing our Spooky House song. Each day there is a new item in the house. They have to say the sounds in the word and then put the sounds together to read the word.

Morning Message
We have started morning message where I write a message to the class. The children come up and write part of words or words to help write the message. Each day two rows on the carpet can read all or part of the message. More children are being brave and trying to read the entire message. Each student will get to take the message home. So far 6 have had a turn to take the message home. The children can hang it somewhere in their bedroom and practice reading the message and/or playing school. Here is Peyton being brave and reading the message.

Retelling Game
It is important to be able to retell the important parts of stories we have read. The children enjoy playing the retelling game to see if they can remember the story without the teacher's help. If they can remember what comes next by themselves, the class get a point. If I have to help, then I get the point. As you can see the class did a great job remembering the story! Although I did give some help, since it was our first time playing the game.
