Applesauce Fun

We celebrated Johnny Appleseed's birthday by making applesauce.  Some children loved it!  Others, not so much.  Thank you to the moms who came into to help!  We couldn't have done it without you!

Apple Sentence Reading

Here are a few friends reading their apple sentence.  Each sentence will become a class book.

We love apples!

Today we tasted three kinds of apples.  We tasted Red Delicious, Golden Delicious and Granny Smith apples.  The children had to pick their favorite kind of apple.  We will be making a class book at the end of the week about our favorite kind of apple.

Here Comes the Letter R

We made the r sound and listened to words that began with Rr.  We found Rr's in our poem and made a list of 24 Rr words.  Here are two friends reading the Rr poem.

What We Can Do

We talked about all the many things we know how to do.  The children picked one idea and wrote a sentence in their journals.  Here are three children sharing their journals.

Best Buses Popsicles

The children enjoyed popsicles from Dr. Stryjewski.  The school earned them for showing great behavior on the buses for three days in a row.  We know not everyone rides the bus, but we didn't want to leave anyone out.  Here is the class enjoying them and saying "thanks".

Letter O

Today we learned about the letter O.  We talked about O being a vowel and that vowels make two sounds.  Here are two friends reading the O poem.  Don't forget tomorrow is early release day and talent show day.  I can't wait to see some exciting talents!

Learning about Habit #2

Today we learning about habit 2, begin with the end in mind.  We learned that means to have a plan.  We talked about having a plan for center time.  The children drew a picture of what center they were going to go to.  Then they labeled their picture.

Five Senses Fun

We popped popcorn today.  We could see, hear and smell it popping.  Then we got to touch and taste the popcorn which is always a favorite.  The children made a book to go with the experiment of using the five senses.  Here are the children reading the book.

Journal Writing

Today we shared what we did over the weekend.  The children drew a picture of one thing they did over the weekend.  Then they wrote about what they did.

Color Fun

Today we mixed colors using Cool Whip and food coloring.  We learned red and blue make purple, yellow and red make orange, and red and blue make purple.  We also learned songs for each color throughout the week.  Here are a few friends singing the red song.

Being Proactive

We have been talking about what it means to be proactive.  The children drew a picture of themselves being proactive.  Then they told me their idea and I wrote it on the paper.  Here are a few of the great ideas the children came up with.

Today we talked about what we did over the weekend.  The children drew a picture about one thing.  We wrote the words "I like" together.  Then the children used their sound spelling to write the rest of the sentence.  Children also labeled parts of their pictures using their sound spelling.
